4ttitude

As our project draws to conclusion our group is satisfied with the outcome, as we had done the best with what time and resources we had. There may have been a few hiccups along the way but overall we worked well as a group and played to each others strengths while supporting against our weaknesses.

We went into this project knowing what we wanted to do more or less; designs and ideas came easy to us and we got started right away. The only major problem we encountered was during the shooting phase of our project; we had to reshoot the video due to unforeseen circumstances which wasted valuable editing time. The design team did a great job on following and maintaining the theme of the project which in turn allowed the curation and logistics team to grasp a better understanding of how the final installation would look like.

A minor problem of space was quickly rectified when the graduate batch of (AD1005) allowed us to use part of their space for our exhibition.

On the day of our exhibition the analytical panel of lecturers found quite a few problems with the final project, mainly being the boring nature of its presentation and the use of the design space, however the project is meant to be a one on one interaction and is meant to be experienced that way. Even though the group felt disheartened that the ‘judges’ critique was quite harsh, we rested easy as a group knowing that we ourselves were happy with the outcome. If we work together in the future we will definitely be a more stronger and efficient team due to what we went through in this assignment.

Project Beta Testing 6 February 2013

6 February 2013 (Wednesday) is the day for our beta testing.
In this day, 4ttitude members reached few hours earlier than the exhibition time for our setup.
We are unable to setup on the previous day because it's a sharing space with others.
Therefore, we can only do the setup on the exact day.
The biggest worry of our team is the sharing space with AD1005.
However, the students from AD1005 are very friendly.
We are really thankful for their understandings and cooperation.

Since we're doing our project in an open space.
There few important things that we need to take note.
  1. The wires on the floor. We need an internet connection for our setup, the nearest internet plug to our exhibition spot is the one which is located inside the library. Therefore, the wire must be taped firmly so that it will not trip the passerby.
  2. The "no-entry" sign. We have a projector which is located on top of a locker. Even though we have already taped the bottom of the locker, but it is still dangerous for people to lean on it. Therefore, we have created a space which is no entry available to avoid people from shaking the locker accidentally.

This is how the final setup looks like at the end.

Introduction of our project is stick on the white foam.

Important feedback from the lecturers
  1. Distracting backdrop
  2. The presentation is too draggy, too many videos
  3. We didn't make full use of the exhibition space
Post-Mortem
  1. Look into very minor details
  2. The continuity of our design in our project
  3. Refine user interface (showcase our thinking as detail as possible)
  4. Create 30s video (What is project all about?)
  5. Visual studies
  6. Make sure installation in on eye level (user experience)
  7. Project leader - controls the flaws
  8. Always have back up plan

Video Re-Shoot 1 February 2013

The equipments we booked are same as last time, first video shooting, but we added a spot light for the shooting that day.

Time: 9.00am to 1.00pm

Roles and positions of the day
1. Director - Redzuan
2. Make Up Artist & Video Editor- Jayis
3. Talent/Model aka the ai - Ching Huey
4. Cameraman- En Fung

Here are some photos from that day.

Alpha Testing 30 January 2013

In this day, we encountered a huge problem because the venue we requested to use is used by other batch of students for their graduation fundraising. After some confirmations we did with the IT department, there is a mistake which one of our team members did not submit the request slip while doing the equipment booking. There is initially 2 groups which plan to have their setup installation there but due to the clash of venue, another group decided to do it in MM Lab instead. Therefore, the representatives from our group, Jayis and Ching Huey decided to do some negotiations with the person in charge of the fundraising event. After a discussion about 30 minutes, discussing about the floor plan, the president agreed with the sharing of the venue for alpha and beta testing.

Important decisions of that day:
  • Consider about the wire on the wall which can cause shadow while doing projection.
  • Stick the bottom of the locker to avoid shaking.
  • Consider about the man power and hours we should spend while doing the project
  • Re-shoot because the AI's head is cut for some scenes.
  • Confirmation with the IT department about the internet plug.

Meeting Minute 23 January 2013 (Pre-Alpha)

In this day, Shahnim and Jazmi separated the team by meeting them with the leader from each department.

The design and curation department was given a briefing session about the A1 posters we have to submit on week 13 by Shahnim.

Change of Week 13 Live Exhibition Format, due to unavailability of panel installation.

Students are to create three A1 (33.1 x 23.4 in/ 841 x 594 mm) posters to creatively present their work that communicates clearly
  • How your idea answered the brief.
  • Aim to grab the judges attention in 30 seconds, and from there, don’t let it go!
  • Keep the format Simple and Entertaining.
  • Clearly showcase your
  • Great Idea, Brilliant Execution and
  • an Answer to the Brief.
  1. 1 poster for General idea of Project.
  2. 1 poster for Design Execution and Development.
  3. 1 poster of Technical Execution and Development.

Tip: KISS (Keep It Seriously Simple)

The technical and research/documentation department was given a briefing session by Jazmi.

A/B Testing - Split testing, with/without something

Areas to consider:
  • Screen design - different position, questionnaire - how accurate is the info for you
  • UI and Setup
  • Sound
  • Interaction
  • is 10s good enough for the user to think?
  • Rewarding
